Objectives & Outcomes

  • By the end of this lesson, learners should be able to identify and name the eight parts of speech in English and use them correctly in sentences.

Materials

  • Flashcards with the eight parts of speech written on them (noun, pronoun, adjective, verb, adverb, conjunction, interjection)
  • A whiteboard and markers

Warm-up

  • Ask the learners to name the three parts of speech they already know and write them on the board.
  • Ask the learners to give an example of each part of speech they mentioned.
  • Write their examples on the board under each part of speech.

  • Use the handouts to introduce the different parts of speech and their definitions.
  • Use examples to illustrate the different parts of speech and how to identify them.
